Survivor Series is the WWE’s major PPV of the fall and its history will tell you that memorable moments happen at this event but will this year’s show live up to the hype? It really depends on how you view the show, Is John Cena’s return to the ring worth $40? Will the Survivor Series tag matches be good matches or the standard non descript ten person tag match? Those questions will be answered this Sunday but if I had to guess, I’d expect the show to deliver. Now, let’s predict some of the winners for the PPV.
The Divas match will feature Beth Phoenix, Mickie James, Candice Michelle, Kelly Kelly, and Jillian on team Raw. They will be wrestling against Michelle McCool, Maria, Maryse, Victoria, and Natalya on team Smackdown. Since there’s not any direct match or feud analysis for this one, I’m going to take a moment to discuss some general things about some of the competitors. The pairing with Santino has really diversified Beth’s character and has done nothing but benefit her. I know some people think that a comical type of storyline might hurt Beth’s glamazon image but I disagree because a more diverse character allows for more opportunities for Beth to be involved in a variety of storylines. I also wanted to mention that Kelly Kelly has really improved during her time on Raw and you really have to give her a lot of credit for that. She’s gone from the typical model diva to someone that can actually have some decent matches in the ring. I also wanted to discuss Maryse, during her time on Smackdown she’s steadily developed a good heel persona, which is something the “diva” division needs at this point. I have to say, I’m very surprised that Natalya hasn’t made more of an impact or been given more of a push since her debut on Smackdown. As I said before, she has the wrestling skill and the name to build off of so in my opinion, the WWE would be missing the boat so to speak if they don’t give her a diva’s title run some time in the near future. To get back to a prediction, I have to pick the Raw team to get the win her simply because the Smackdown team has more heels so I’d expect them to sabotage the match for the faces on team Smackdown.
Team HBK:Khali, Rey, Cryme Tyme, and Shawn Micheals v.s Team JBL:Miz, Morrison, MVP, Kane, and JBL. Again, there’s not really a direct feud with this one other than the team captions so I’m going to discuss some of the wrestlers in detail. Khali’s new comedy gimmick should work well because even though he has the size, his in ring skill is very limited so that limits what type of storylines he can be involved in. The comedy will probably allow Khali to contribute more now than he was when they tried to push him as a serious threat. It’s good to see that Cryme Tyme are getting more exposure because as I said the team is pure entertainment. Speaking of entertaining teams, Miz and Morrison could have a good feud with Cryme Tyme so hopefully the two teams remain involved after the PPV. JBL/HBK is the one feud that I can definitely see this match progressing and I’d expect them to have a match at Armageddon next month. There’s a lot of potential in a JBL/HBK feud because it has the old school elements of legitimate heel heat that JBL brings to the table and the classic “good guy” character that HBK brings into a feud. I’ll pick Team HBK to get the win because MVP is a member of team JBL and he hasn’t won any type of match in who knows how long? Ha Ha I know it’s not the most solid reasoning but hey it’s a ten man tag match give me a break here…Ha Ha
I don’t expect too much from any Big Show match but it’s really cool that there’s a casket match at Survivor Series because it’s another throw back for the event. I have to predict that The Undertaker gets the win here because after months of feuding with the Big Show and getting defeated, this would seem like a good time to conclude the feud with The Undertaker finally getting his revenge on the Big Show.
Team Orton:Cody Rhodes, William Regal, Shelton Benjamin, Mark Henry, and Randy Orton v.s. Team Batista:Matt Hardy, R-Truth, CM Punk, Kofi Kingston, and Batista. I have to predict team Orton to get the win because with Orton recently returning to Raw, I think this match will be designed to push Orton to get ready to feud with Batista. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Batista/Orton goes until the Royal Rumble or No Way Out of next year.
The triple threat WWE title match will probably be a good match but it seems like Jeff Hardy was only added to the match to give Triple H a way to win without affecting Kozlov’s momentum. That being said, after a few PPV matches of jobbing to Triple H, I don’t really think it’s believable that Hardy will win the title. Triple H/Hardy created some really good drama in their matches the past few months but at this point, it just doesn’t seem believable. Kozlov has a great look, a great character, and Hardy made him look great during his beginning months on Smackdown so it’s actually cool that the WWE added Hardy to the match to get pinned so that Kozlov doesn’t have get pinned and look weak. Obviously, I think Triple H will win this match and retain the title.
The world heavy weight title match should be a good one and it’s really a tough call to pick a winner. I have to say, I really think Jericho deserves a ton of credit for having the title run that he had over the past few months. His heel character seems to be his usual persona blended with an old school heel and it’s worked really well during his title reign. John Cena’s return is the center piece of Survivor Series and it would be fitting for him to win the title in his home town but for some reason I just don’t think he will win it this Sunday, mainly because in my opinion, if Jericho keeps the title you can get more mileage out of a Cena/Jerico feud if Cena chases the title.
Overall, I think Survivor Series will be a good PPV and it will be interesting to see where each main event picture on Raw and Smackdown goes after the PPV.
Until next week
